Announcements - last updated on Sunday, July 13, 2008

MANY THANKS to those who have contributed toward our boiler replacement. Contributions have reached 24% of the expected costs and your gifts to help defray these costs are greatly appreciated.

FROM THE VESTRY - In recent weeks some personal items have disappeared from the narthex and vesting room during Holy Eucharist. The vestry would like to remind all of our parish family that the best form of security we have is our own parishioners. A polite, "May I help you?" may be all that is needed to prevent something from walking away. Greeting a stranger with a friendly, "Hello, I don't believe I have met you, " is a wonderful way to share the community that we have with each other, and also to add to a general feeling of secure well being for all of us. Please help us in this; you will benefit as well by getting to know more of your parish family.
A small and struggling downtown restaurant posted a sign over their bin of silverware: "Please don't steal from us. If you need something that badly, just ask and we will give it to you." The Chapel of Our Saviour is dedicated to charitable outreach, both in our hearts and in our actions. If you or someone you know is in need, please let a member of the vestry or one of the staff know about it. We are here to help.

FROM THE PARISH NURSE -  Please talk to Susan Day if you have any questions.
**We will walk on Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. (meet us at 8:50 in the Parish Hall).
**Tai Chi is on Thursdays at 11:30 am (meet in Parish Hall by 11:25 a.m.).
** The next Blood Pressure Clinics will be Sunday, July 20 after each service

WESTSIDE CARES, which our Parish supports in a variety of ways, provides school backpacks for children of low income families. They are planning to give away 250-300 backpacks, filled with school supplies, on July 28th. Our Saviour has been asked to provide 250 packets of #2 pencils, quantity of 24 pencils each packet. There will be a basket in the narthex to place our donations. These are needed by July 21. WSC also needs volumteers to help stuff the backpacks on July 25 and 26. Please call WSC at 389-0759 or Barbara McLain if you are able to help.

MONTHLY POTLUCKS AT OUR SAVIOUR! The Fellowship Commission has decided to expand the fellowship hour once a month. On the first Sunday of each month, we will have a potluck lunch after the second Eucharist rather than just coffee and cookies. The next potluck lunch will be Sunday, August 3. If you are able to serve on a committee to help coordinate the potlucks (set-up, clean-up, etc.) please call Sally Hubbell.

OUR JULY BOOK DISCUSSION is Monday, July 14, at 7:00 pm. Please note that this is the second Monday of July, instead of the third, a change made necessary by Father Casey's summer schedule. Discussion is of Infidel, the personal memoir of Ayaan Hirsi Ali. This is a MUST read, the story of the shaping of the life of a courageous woman amidst the complicated influences of God, religion, culture, obligations, love and faith, oppression and freedom. Copies are available in the Chapel Shop. Get your copy and join us for the discussion in the Parish Hall Sun Room.

OUR SEPTEMBER BOOK DISCUSSION is Monday, September 15 at 7:00 pm. Discussion is of Saturday, Ian McEwan's engaging story about the complexities of human life and the interplay of crises and priorities. Copies are available in the Chapel Shop. Get your copy and join us for the discussion in the Parish Hall Sun Room.

EPISCOPAL SUMMER CAMPS AT TRINITY RANCH - Information about the dates, costs, and deadlines for 2008 camping for young people at Trinity Ranch this coming summer is available in the narthex. For registration forms and scholarships, if needed, please speak to Father Casey. High School Camp - July 13-19 / Wilderness Camp - July 27-August 3 (Grades 10-12).

THRIFT HOUSE still has opening for the July schedule for volunteers. We need you and your donations. Please call or email Hedy DuCharme.

THE CATECHUMENATE MIGHT BE FOR YOU - First session, Wednesday, September 17, 2008, 7:00 - 8:30 pm. The Catechumenate is a process that was used by the early Christians to prepare adults for Holy Baptism. Today it also does that and more. Participants might be preparing for baptism, or for confirmation, reception into the Episocpal Church, renewal of their baptismal vows, or just finding out everything you wanted to know about church and faith. We meet in the Parish Hall on Wednesday evening from September 17 to Ash Wednesday (February 25 next year), with breaks for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We have an informal "bring your own dinner" at 6:00 pm, and the sessions are from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. There is a signup sheet in the narthex. If you have any questions, ask Father Casey or Kate.

PHOTO CLUB: Our next meeting will be TBD, also our next quarterly rotation.  Please call Judy or Tom if this sounds interesting to you!

PARISH PigNic - mark your calendars for Saturday, September 13, for the 2008 Annual PigNic. Any event this big needs lots of people to make it all happen, so call Guy if you would like to help.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY - KNITTERS, CROCHETERS, AND QUILTERS Our ministry meet on the first Saturday of every month at 10:00 a.m. in the Sun Room. Please join us in prayer and knitting, crocheting and quilting for the ill, grieving, shut-ins, new brides, babies, etc. There are many who would appreciate our prayers and works of love.
We will teach you to knit, crochet or quilt, so if this is a skill you want to master, join us. We meet for an hour, pray over the finished projects, and either deliver them ourselves or make them available for the Care Commission. The next meeting will be on Saturday, August 2, at 10:00 a.m. For further information, call Jan Jaquith.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS - If you have questions about Youth Group stuff, please call Meredith.
Friday, July 25 - Camp-out at Our Saviour (with other Episcopal Youth Groups from Colorado Springs)
Saturday, August 9 - Trip to Waterworld with St. Michael's Episcopal Church
Tuesday, August 12 - Deliver goods to Los Pobres in Avondale, CO.

The Youth Group is sponsoring a Shoe, Rice and an Art Supplies Drive for Los Pobres Center in Avondale, CO, to benefit families and individuals in the southern Colorado region. We will deliver these goods in mid August. We are collecting ... Pairs of practical shoes/boots (laces tied together), bags of rice, art supplies. Los Pobres Center is an outreach program run by the Sisters of Charity in Avondale, CO. This ministry was originally created to serve migrant farm workers. However, after opening their center, where all food and clothing items are to be had at no cost, the Sisters learned that their services were needed by other members of this rural community regardless of age, occupation, or citizenship.

YOUTH STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING - the next Youth Steering Committee meeting will be on Monday, July 14 at 4:00 pm.
